1. Getting Started
Welcome to SmolaOS 95 — the retro desktop portfolio experience by SmolaDesigns. This site is designed to feel like a classic operating system, complete with a boot sequence, desktop icons, draggable elements, and interactive windows.
System Requirements
- Any modern browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge)
- Best experienced on desktop at 1280px+ width
- Mobile-friendly — works on phones and tablets too
- Sound recommended for the full boot experience
The Boot Sequence
When you first load the site, you'll see a retro boot sequence: a classic computer zoom-in, a green terminal with loading text, and then the desktop reveals itself. Sit back and enjoy it — or add ?skip=mac to the URL to jump straight to the desktop.
2. Navigating the Desktop
The desktop works like a real operating system. Here's how to get around:
Desktop Icons
Double-click (or tap on mobile) any icon to open its window:

The Taskbar
The black bar at the top of the screen contains the navigation menu. Click any item to open its window. On mobile, use the hamburger menu icon.
Draggable Icons
On desktop, you can long-press and drag icons to rearrange them — just like a real desktop. They'll snap back if you drop them in an empty area.

Projects Window
The projects window showcases real client work. Use the sidebar to browse projects, or scroll through them. Each project shows:
- A browser preview that auto-scrolls through the live site screenshot
- Project description and tech stack
- A "Visit Site" button to see the live website
Services Window
Browse our full service offering — from website design and development to SEO, branding, and performance optimization. Each service card lists exactly what's included.
Blog Window
Read web design tips and industry insights. Filter by category using the tabs at the top. Click "Read More" to see the full article on our main site.
Contact Window
Fill out the form to get a free quote. We respond within 24 hours.
4. Clippy Assistant
You may notice a friendly paperclip in the bottom-right corner. That's Clippy — our resident assistant (who is mostly decorative).
Clippy Features
- His eyes follow your cursor
- He'll share random tips and commentary
- Hover over the Trash and watch him panic
- You can drag him to the Trash... but he won't go quietly
- Even from the Trash, he keeps talking
5. Tips & Tricks
Pro Tips
- Click the Sticky Note on the desktop for a hidden message
- The Trash Can fills up when you drag Clippy into it
- Project previews auto-scroll — watch the full page of each website
- The boot sequence plays sound effects if your volume is on
- Add ?skip=mac to the URL to skip the boot animation
- Works great as a full-screen browser tab for presentations
